Excerpt from Fellini: A Life, PART 2

Fellini shows the script of Nights of Cabiria to producer Goffredo Lombardo:

“When the script was in reasonably good shape, Fellini took it to Lombardo. After reading it, Lombardo asked Fellini to come in and discuss it. He had strong doubts about the story, he said. ‘Let’s be frank. You made a film about lazy bums and queers, then one about a rascally gypsy and a half-wit, and another about swindlers. You wanted to make one about insane women. And now you come to me with a story about prostitutes. I wonder now, what will your next film be about?’

‘Producers,’ Fellini snapped."
